Detroit Lions
Quarterback
Jared Goff: Startable, QB2
Jared Goff’s been a steady hand at QB, and even though the Cowboys present a challenge, he’s got the weapons to put up a respectable day. He’s a safe option if you’re looking for a solid 15-20 points. Coming off of a bye week, he should also benefit from a fully healthy supporting cast.
Running Back
Jahmyr Gibbs: Start, RB1
David Montgomery: Start, RB2
Jahmyr Gibbs’ explosive style makes him a must-start, as he can turn any touch into a big play. The Cowboys have allowed the fifth most points to opposing running backs, which provides both Lions backs with a high ceiling in Week 6. Both Gibbs and David Montgomery are prime trade-for candidates, considering they are past their bye week and have nine matchups against the bottom half of the league’s rush defenses between now and the fantasy football championship. Neither player has played to their ceiling quite yet, but the usage is there, and the offense showed signs of improving in Week 4. One of my favorite moves to make right now is trading Bijan Robinson away for either of the Lions’ running backs. Obviously, with Montgomery, you will be able to demand more in return. One of my boldest takes right now is that Montgomery will outscore Robinson from Week 9 on. If you make a move now, you can secure your team more high-value assets before you approach the playoffs.
Wide Receiver
Amon-Ra St. Brown: Start, WR1
Jameson Williams: FLEX Option, WR3
Amon-Ra St. Brown is the kind of player who’s going to deliver week in and week out. His target volume is rock solid, and he’s more than capable of putting up big numbers no matter who’s lining up across from him. You are never benching him as long as he is healthy. Now for the anti-St. Brown in Jaemson Williams. Williams brings a lot of upside to the table, but his role is still evolving. If you’re looking for a high-risk, high-reward flex, he’s your guy—just know that the floor is still incredibly low. He is one of my favorite dynasty buy lows after what I project to be an up-and-down next month of the season. In Week 6, the Cowboys are in the bottom third in the league in points allowed to opposing wideouts.
Tight End
Sam LaPorta: Start, TE1
Sam LaPorta has been a massive letdown this season, only posting one top-10 week so far. The Cowboys are middle of the road against opposing tight ends, which provides LaPorta with some opportunity to get right coming out of the bye. Overall, for a position that has been a massive letdown, I am betting on a LaPorta bounceback.
Dallas Cowboys
Quarterback
Dak Prescott: Start, QB1
Dak Prescott has been finding his rhythm lately, posting at least 17 fantasy points in each of his last three games. The matchup against the Lions gives him a chance to keep things rolling. Detroit’s defense can be tough, but it’s a matchup where the Cowboys will need to be throwing for a majority of the game.
Running Back
Rico Dowdle: FLEX Option, RB3
Rico Dowdle is a deeper league flex option who could offer some value, especially if Dallas decides to emphasize the run. While not a high-ceiling play, he could surprise with a few extra touches or goal-line carries, making him a serviceable option if you’re short on flex players. Notice the Ezekiel Elliott omission.
Wide Receiver
CeeDee Lamb: Start, WR1
Jalen Tolbert: FLEX Option, WR4
CeeDee Lamb is a must-start every week, with his combination of route-running and target share making him one of the top wide receivers in fantasy. The Lions will have a hard time containing him, so don’t hesitate to fire him up as a top option. Now down Brandin Cooks, Jalen Tolbert is a deeper league flex consideration as the Cowboys WR2, especially if the game turns into a shootout. He’s shown some flashes of potential and could benefit from extra targets if the Cowboys end up airing it out. While the upside is there, his role is still evolving, so keep expectations in check.
Tight End
Jake Ferguson: Start, TE1
Ferguson has become a reliable part of the Cowboys’ offense, particularly in the red zone. He’s been seeing a steady stream of targets, and his ability to find the end zone makes him a strong TE1 play this week. He has become one of the safest plays at a volatile position for fantasy football.
