Baltimore Ravens

Quarterback

Lamar Jackson: START, QB1

Any other week, you’d see a “fun fact” for Lamar Jackson; he’s earned the right to be a locked and loaded QB1 every week. But coming off a hamstring injury and missing three games, I felt some context was needed. Despite the Miami defense completely shutting down the ghost of Kirko Chainz in Week 8 and Dillon Gabriel the week before, they still rank as a Top 10 fantasy matchup for quarterbacks. They’ve also allowed a league-high four rushing touchdowns to quarterbacks. If you have any hesitation in starting Lamar, don’t. Fire him up with confidence.

Running Back

Derrick Henry: START, RB1
Justice Hill: SIT
Keaton Mitchell: SIT

It is the wise words of world-renowned wordsmith Rafiki, “The king has returned.” Or has he? Yes, Derrick Henry has his second straight game over 14 fantasy points and scored his 111th and 112th rushing touchdowns, passing Walter Payton for fifth most in NFL history. Yes, it was his second straight game with 20+ rushing attempts. But it was his third game this season averaging under 3.5 yards per carry, and honestly, he just looks like he’s lost a step. I think the move to make with Henry is to sell high. Not that he can’t maintain this level of production, but I think it’s more likely he doesn’t. Just wait until after the Dolphins game. Miami is the fifth-best fantasy matchup for running backs and is one of four teams allowing over five yards per carry and giving up 10 or more rushing touchdowns. They give up explosive runs at a league-high 9.1% clip and are tied with the Bills for the most yards after contact per attempts at 2.81 (per Fantasy Points Data). You could use the juicy matchup as a selling point to cash in your chips. But you may miss out on a week-winning performance from King Henry. Even in an excellent matchup, neither Justice Hill nor Keaton Mitchell sees consistent enough touches to consider starting, even at FLEX.

Wide Receiver

Zay Flowers: START, WR2
Rashod Bateman: SIT
DeAndre Hopkins: SIT

Miami has been a wide receiver matchup to avoid for fantasy purposes most of the season, giving up the second-fewest points to the position and allowing just one 100-yard receiver so far. Week 8 was no different, but not for the usual reasons. Teams have been able to have their way with the Dolphins’ defense and pound the rock all day, but Miami completely shut down Atlanta’s offense. But it was more of an aberration than an upward trend, with Kirk Cousins looking every bit of 37 years old in a spot start. I expect the Ravens to be able to run all over the Dolphins, which could limit the ceilings of Baltimore’s pass catchers. Zay Flowers is still starting for you, but I’d avoid everyone else.

Tight End

Mark Andrews: STREAMER

Lamar Jackson went down with a bad hammy just as Mark Andrews started to get going. Andrews’ two best games of the season came right before Jackson went down, averaging seven targets over that period and catching two touchdowns in Week 3. Miami is an overall neutral matchup, but the return of Lamar is enough to sustain Andrews as a streamer.

Defense/Special Teams

Baltimore Ravens: SIT

Don’t get cute. Baltimore is one of three teams allowing more than 30 points per game this season.

Miami Dolphins

Quarterback

Tua Tagovailoa: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)

After throwing six interceptions over his previous two games and calls for him to be permanently benched for Quinn Ewers, Tua Tagovailoa threw four touchdowns and had no turnovers in Atlanta. The same Falcons defense that shut down reigning MVP Josh Allen a few weeks ago. The same Falcons defense that before Week 8 had allowed four combined passing touchdowns since Week 2. Tua did enough against Atlanta to make him a decent but dangerous Superflex starter in a delicious matchup against Baltimore. The Dolphins’ offense can turn back into a dumpster fire at any moment.

Running Back

De’Von Achane: START, RB1
Ollie Gordon II: Borderline FLEX

Clearly, you’re playing Devon Achane, but did you know he was born in 2001, the same year the sci-fi mystery Donnie Darko introduced its creepy rabbit and mind-bending story? Rookie running back Ollie Gordon had his first game with 10+ touches as well as 10+ fantasy points against Atlanta. That could legitimately have been the last time they’ll be in a positive game script, but Gordon did enough to be considered a desperation FLEX play if you need a warm body with a top-five fantasy matchup.

Wide Receiver

Jaylen Waddle: START, WR2
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine: SIT
Malik Washington: SIT

With the big day from Tua came a bounce-back performance for Jaylen Waddle. It was Waddle’s second game of the season with over 20 fantasy points, catching five of six passes for 99 yards, including this 43-yard touchdown.

Talent was never the question for Waddle; it was which Tua would show up. The Dolphins face off against the Ravens on Thursday Night, who’ve given up 14 passing touchdowns in seven games, fifth most in the NFL.. While I wish I could push him higher, I still consider Waddle more of a low-end WR2/high-end WR3. He still has significant upside, but I’m not overly confident in the Miami offense after just one game. Waddle’s the only Dolphins receiver I’m starting.

Defense/Special Teams

Miami Dolphins: SIT

Even after holding Atlanta to 10 points, the Dolphins are still allowing over 26 points per game.
