Quarterback
Daniel Jones: START, QB1
Is … is … Daniels Jones a must-start? Is he in fun-fact territory just yet?
No. But he’s close.
Jones has 10 total touchdowns over his previous four games and has become one of the most reliable fantasy quarterbacks this season. Who’da thunk?
If you don’t count Dillon Gabriel in Week 6 (because, come on, it’s Dillon Gabriel), the Steelers’ defense has given up multiple passing touchdowns in every game and six in its past two. Jones is a must-start, possibly top-five option for Week 9.
Running Back
Jonathan Taylor: START, RB1
It goes without saying to start Jonathan Taylor, but did you know he was born in 1999, the same year Brendan Fraser battled ancient horrors in “The Mummy”?
Wide Receiver
Michael Pittman Jr.: START, WR1
Alec Pierce: FLEX, WR4
Josh Downs: FLEX, WR4
Michael Pittman Jr. had his second straight game scoring over 20 fantasy points and came down with his sixth touchdown catch of the season, making a ludicrous one-armed catch with the Titans DB all over him.
HOW DID HE CATCH THIS???

The touchdown ties Pittman’s career high for a single season. He’s not just the Colts’ WR1; he’s quietly having a WR1 season in fantasy and should remain there as long as he continues to remain one of Indiana Jones’ top two targets, especially inside the 10. He’s tied with Tyler Warren for the team lead in end-zone targets. Josh Downs has scored 11 or more points in three straight games, but missed Week 7 due to a concussion and has yet to practice this week at the time of writing. In a great matchup against a Steelers defense allowing the third-most points to the position, Downs is a flex play if active. So is Alec Pierce, considering the Steelers allow a 50% completion rate on pass attempts of 20 or more yards and have given up three such touchdowns. If Downs is out, Pierce’s floor is bumped a bit but remains a flex.
Tight End
Tyler Warren: START, TE1
Don’t be discouraged by Tyler Warren‘s second game under double-digit fantasy points. His usage was on par with what we’ve seen most of the season, and he was one Pittman block away from taking a 40-ish-yard screen pass to the house. Warren is my TE1 for Week 9, facing a Steelers defense that’s allowed three tight end touchdowns over the previous two weeks, including a double dip from Tucker Kraft on “Sunday Night Football.”
Defense/Special Teams
Indianapolis Colts: START
The Colts’ defense has become one of the most dominant units in the league. The Colts are one of seven teams holding their opponents to under 20 points per game, are tied for the third most turnovers forced (12), and fifth most sacks (23). They’re a must-start D/ST, week in and week out.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)
One of FIVE games with an implied total over 50, Aaron Rodgers owners can thank his hot garbage of a defense for his fantasy production this season. Rodgers is tied with Dak Prescott for the second-most passing touchdowns this season (16). Before getting a cakewalk matchup with Cam Ward, the Colts gave up a combined 740 passing yards and five touchdowns to Jacoby Brissett and Justin Herbert. You’re probably starting Rodgers in Superflex, but he’s a fine streamer if you’re in a pinch in 1QB.
Running Back
Jaylen Warren: START, RB2
Kenneth Gainwell: SIT
Jaylen Warren has been spectacularly average, rushing for over 100 yards just once and failing to score over 10 fantasy points in two of his last three. He’s had the Pittsburgh backfield on lock, handing 62.4% of the team’s total rushing attempts, but hasn’t gotten into the end zone since Week 1. The Colts are a bottom-10 matchup for fantasy purposes, allowing just four rushing touchdowns to running backs and yet to allow any to rush for 80 yards. Warren’s a borderline, volume-based RB2. Kenneth Gainewell plays running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wide Receiver
DK Metcalf: START, WR2
Calvin Austin III: SIT
Roman Wilson: SIT
DK Metcalf‘s fantasy value as a Steeler is very simple. If he scores a touchdown, he’s a good bet to get 10 or more points. Maaaaaaybe 20 if you’re lucky. But you can expect around five to seven targets, usually at least 50 yards, and more often than not, a touchdown. The Colts have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to the position and tied for the fifth-most passing touchdowns allowed (14). He’s an upside-down WR2 against Indy. Neither Calvin Austin nor Roman Wilson is consistent enough to be considered a starting player in fantasy.
Tight End
Jonnu Smith: SIT
Pat Freiermuth: SIT
Darnell Washington: SIT
Maybe the Dolphins could borrow one of the Steelers’ tight ends? Since all three do just enough to prevent the others from being starting options for fantasy.
Defense/Special Teams
Pittsburgh Steelers: SIT
They just gave up 35 points to 40-year-old Joe Flacco.
