San Francisco 49ers
Quarterback
Brock Purdy: Streaming Option
Brock Purdy sits just outside of our top 12 QBs this week as our QB13 and is a fine start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who allow the second-most points to opposing QBs on the season. Purdy has always performed better with Christian McCaffrey in the lineup, so this week could be a more prolific scoring week for Purdy if CMC sees his usual passing game utilization. Fire him up if one of your other QBs is on bye or has a tough matchup.
Running Back
Christian McCaffrey: Start, RB2
Jordan Mason: FLEX Option, RB3
Isaac Guerendo: Sit
Christian McCaffrey is only listed as an RB2 due to this being his first game action of 2024, so we aren’t quite sure what kind of workload we’ll see from him. If you drafted him in the early first round of redraft leagues, you’ve been waiting for this moment all season, so you’ll be starting him. Jordan Mason is a very low-tier FLEX option this week and should be benched, while Isaac Guerendo should be sent back to waivers.
Wide Receiver
Deebo Samuel: Start, WR2
Ricky Pearsall: FLEX Option, WR4
Jauan Jennings: FLEX Option, WR4
The only 49ers receiver you should seriously consider starting this week is Deebo Samuel. With CMC back, there’s hope that the playbook will be opened more for San Francisco’s offense, so hopefully, we can see more creative usage for Samuel, who has been a boom-or-bust option this season. He profiles as a WR2 against a soft Buccaneers passing defense, while both Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings slide in as a deep league FLEX option. You should start another option at FLEX if you can, but I’ll lean Pearsall over Jennings if you must start one.
Tight End
George Kittle: Start, TE1
George Kittle has been Fantasy’s best tight end in 2024. His worst week this season came in Week 1 when he finished as the week’s TE11. Start him.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Quarterback
Baker Mayfield: Start, QB1
Baker Mayfield had his second-worst fantasy finish in Week 9 (QB16) against the Kansas City Chiefs, perhaps suggesting there is some vulnerability to this play without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Still, Mayfield has been one of fantasy’s most prolific QBs this season, and the Buccaneers should need to throw the ball plenty in this game to keep up with the 49ers. Start Mayfield as a QB1, even without his top weapons.
Running Back
Rachaad White: Start, RB2
Bucky Irving: FLEX Option, RB3
Sean Tucker: Sit
The Bucs’ backfield has been a very tough backfield to navigate for fantasy purposes this season. Despite Bucky Irving seemingly taking over the lead back role, at least on the ground, Rachaad White has been the higher-scoring running back as of late. White maintains a slight edge over Irving as an RB2, though the latter has also seen more involved passing game work recently and is a fine FLEX option this week. The 49ers are relatively stout against the run, so both of these players are riskier options than they would be in other matchups.
Wide Receiver
Sit All
In the absence of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, no Buccaneers WR has truly stepped up to fill the gap as a reliable fantasy option for Baker Mayfield. All of them should remain on your benches while we wait for Evans’ return.
Tight End
Cade Otton: Start, TE1
Cade Otton has emerged as a true target hog over the past few weeks, garnering at least 10 looks in each of the last three games. He has become a highly reliable option at the position and can be started with confidence as a high-end TE1 as Baker’s top option in the passing game.
