Detroit Lions
Quarterback
Jared Goff: START, QB1
The Commanders have allowed 10 passing touchdowns over their previous three games, tied for third-most on the season, and the fourth-most passing yards per game. Sometimes it’s simple. This is one of those times.
Running Back
Jahmyr Gibbs: START, RB1
David Montgomery: FLEX, RB3
You absolutely need to start Jahmyr Gibbs every week, but did you know that in the 2024 season, he broke the Lions’ franchise record for the most total touchdowns in a single season (20), a record that surpassed legendary Hall of Famer Barry Sanders? David Montgomery‘s role has diminished compared to previous seasons and has become a touchdown-dependent flex play. If the Lions get up big, he could see some extra run. But the Commanders have allowed just two 100-yard rushers all year.
Wide Receiver
Amon-Ra St. Brown: START, WR1
Jameson Williams: START, WR3
Amon-Ra St. Brown is a weekly must-start, but did you know that he joined only Davante Adams and Antonio Brown as the third player in NFL history to produce at least 115 receptions and 10 receiving touchdowns in consecutive seasons? Jameson Williams has the most Jameson Williamsish game that ever Jameson Williamsed: four catches on five targets for 66 yards and a touchdown. It was his third game this season with over 15 fantasy points. Look up “boom-bust fantasy football wide receiver” in the dictionary, and you’ll see Jamo’s smiling face. Trust me.
Tight End
Sam LaPorta: START, TE1
The man with the best mustache in the league had himself a day against the Vikings. Lions tight end Sam LaPorta easily had his best game of the season, six catches, eight targets, 97 yards, and a TD. He was second on the team in targets and receptions to ARSB, but tied the sun god for the Lions’ lead in receiving yards. LaPorta had a team-high 2.5 yards per route run on the day. He played 100% of offensive snaps for the third time in his career. After a slow start to the season, LaPorta scored over 16 fantasy points for the third time in his last four games.
Defense/Special Teams
Detroit Lions: START
The Lions have the second-most sacks with 28 and are holding their opponents to 22.3 points per game.
Washington Commanders
Quarterback
Jayden Daniels
Marcus Mariota: START, QB1/2 Borderline (Superflex start)
I highly doubt there’s anybody out there who’s excited to start Marcus Mariota in fantasy, but you could do much worse. Mariota has multiple touchdowns in two of his three starts this season, chips in a little bit on the ground with his legs, and has a top-10 fantasy matchup in the Lions. You’re not forcing him into your lineup, but Mariota is a solid QB2 in Superflex formats.
Running Back
Jacory Croskey-Merritt: SIT
Jeremy McNichols: SIT
Chris Rodriguez Jr.: SIT
Bill, we hardly knew ye. Jacory Croskey-Merrit has a total of 18.6 fantasy points over his past four games and shares the backfield in an ugly three-headed committee with Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez Jr. that renders all three useless for fantasy. None are even in flex consideration against a Lions defense allowing the third-fewest points to the position.
Wide Receiver
Deebo Samuel: START,WR2
Terry McLaurin: OUT
Deebo Samuel should lead the way in targets for the Commanders against the Lions, who are a top 10 fantasy matchup. But with a dislocated elbow shelving Jayden Daniels for possibly the rest of the season, Samuel is dependent on the arm of Marcus Mariota. Not great, Bob. Terry McLaurin is droppable. He’s dealing with a reinjury of the same quad issue he was having earlier in the season, and he’s expected to be out until at least Week 13. He’ll more than likely be without Daniels when he returns, too.
Tight End
Zach Ertz: SIT
If Daniels were active, I’d feel much more comfortable rolling with Zach Ertz as a streamer. But the Lions have allowed just one touchdown to the position since Week 3 and held opposing tight ends to fewer than 50 yards in five of eight games.
Defense/Special Teams
Washington Commanders: SIT
The Commanders are allowing an average of 36.7 points per game over their last three.
