Pittsburgh Steelers
Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers: SIT, QB2 (startable in Superflex)
Aaron Rodgers has shown he still has a little something left in the tank, but not enough to be consistently started in fantasy. He’s yet to surpass 250 passing yards in a single game, and his fantasy value has lived and died by the touchdown. Those may be tough to come by against the Chargers, who are one of eight teams to allow fewer than 10 passing touchdowns this season.
Running Back
Jaylen Warren: FLEX, RB3
Kenneth Gainwell: SIT
Had he not gotten into the end zone twice against Indianapolis, Jaylen Warren would have had 4.9 fantasy points. Yeesh. Outside of Week 7 against (surprise) Cincinnati, Warren hasn’t done much on the ground. The Chargers are an OK matchup, but haven’t allowed a 100-yard rusher since Week 6. Warren will need to get into the end zone to make him a worthwhile start in Week 10.
Wide Receiver
DK Metcalf: START, WR3
Calvin Austin III: SIT
DK Metcalf is coming off his worst game as a Steeler, catching two passes for six, count ’em, six yards. Metcalf has shown his explosiveness at times, but also his trademark inconsistency. He’s a threat to take to the house on any play, but should be treated as a volatile WR3 against the Chargers, who have allowed the fifth-fewest points to wide receivers. Calvin Austin III has back-to-back games with six targets, but isn’t doing enough with them to be considered for fantasy.
Tight End
Jonnu Smith: SIT
Darnell Washington: SIT
Pat Freiermuth: SIT
The Chargers have allowed just one tight end to have over 50 yards this season. If you want to play Steelers tight end roulette against the team allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points to the position, be my guest.
Defense/Special Teams
Pittsburgh Steelers: STREAMER (two weeks)
The Steelers’ defense has struggled this season, but woke up in Week 9 against the Colts. Pittsburgh is tied for third in sacks with 27 and ranks second with 16 turnovers.
Los Angeles Chargers
Quarterback
Justin Herbert: START, QB1
Justin Herbert threw for three touchdowns for the third consecutive game, and is a dark horse for QB1 on the week against the Steelers. Pittsburgh has allowed three consecutive games over 300 passing yards and given up eight total touchdowns to QBs over that span.
Running Back
Kimani Vidal: START, RB2
Jaret Patterson: SIT
Kimani Vidal‘s alternating good and bad performances weekly trend continued, finishing Week 9 with just three points and getting outplayed by Jaret Patterson. I still think Vidal is the Chargers back you want to start in fantasy until Omarion Hampton returns (which sounds like it won’t be until after their Week 12 bye), but keep expectations in check against the Steelers. Pittsburgh has allowed just three 100-yard rushing games and three rushing touchdowns all season. The Steelers are holding opposing running backs to the seventh-fewest points per game.
Wide Receiver
Ladd McConkey: START, WR1
Quentin Johnston: START, WR3
Keenan Allen: FLEX, WR4
The Steelers have shut down the run game, but the pass game is another story. Pittsburgh has allowed six receivers to gain over 100 receiving yards and another three at least 90. Both Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce finished with 115 each last week. The Steelers give up the third-most points to the position, keeping all three of Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and Keenan Allen startable for another week. McConkey and Johnston tied for the team lead in targets in Week 9, but it was QJ who got back into the end zone. McConkey is the safest of the trio and a borderline WR1, with Johnston a boom-bust WR3 and Allen relegated to flex with his recent production slide.
Tight End
Oronde Gadsden II: START, TE1
A fourth straight game of double-digit fantasy points and a second straight catching all five of his targets, Oronde Gadsden II is getting pretty close to “fun fact” status. He’s a must-start against the Steelers, who’ve given up the third-most points to the position, including three touchdowns over their last three games. I wonder if his dad is still benching him?
Defense/Special Teams
Los Angeles Chargers: START
The Chargers are tied for the fourth-most sacks with 26.
