Location: NRG Stadium, Houston, TX

Network: AMZN

Buffalo Bills

Quarterback

Josh Allen: START, QB1

You start Josh Allen no matter what. But did you know Allen’s six-touchdown performance in Week 11 was only the second instance in the Super Bowl Era that a quarterback has thrown for three touchdowns and rushed for three touchdowns in the same game? The previous? Allen last season against the Rams.

Running Back

James Cook III: START, RB1
Ty Johnson: SIT
Ray Davis: SIT

James Cook didn’t do much on the ground against the Bucs, but it didn’t matter with his pass game work. Cook was held to 43 yards on 16 rush attempts but took a 25-yard drop in the breadbasket from Josh Allen into the end zone for a score. He’s a week-in, week-out must start, but it’ll be a bit more difficult for Cook to chef up another 20-point fantasy performance against the Texans. Houston has yet to permit any running back to top 75 yards on the ground and has given up just one receiving touchdown to the position.

Wide Receiver

Khalil Shakir: START, WR3
Keon Coleman: SIT

Tyrell Shavers: SIT
Joshua Palmer: SIT

Buffalo’s receivers theoretically should be highly sought after, considering their quarterback has a chance to go back-to-back as the league’s MVP and is tied for the fifth-highest total touchdowns thrown this season. The Keon Coleman lighting strike has hit once or twice this season, but he was a healthy scratch last week due to disciplinary reasons. But it wasn’t Joshua Palmer who benefited; it was the totally not made-up name Tyrell Shavers. Shavers was only targeted five times, but caught four of them for 90 yards and his second career touchdown in three seasons. Khalil Shakir had his worst game of the season in Week 11 after battling a late-week injury. He didn’t practice on Wednesday, but that was reportedly for personal reasons. Shakir should be back to practice later in the week, but shapes up as a shaky start as a low upside WR3 in facing a Texans defense allowing the third fewest points to wide receivers. He’s the only Bills pass catcher I’d remotely consider starting.

Tight End

Dalton Kincaid
Dawson Knox: SIT
It’s story time with Adam Cole Jay Felicio, BAY BAY.
A backup tight end becomes the starter due to injury.
Said tight end has two catches for 43 total yards in two starts.
Said tight end faces the defense that allows the fourth fewest points to the position.

Defense/Special Teams

Buffalo Bills: SIT

Even against Davis Mills, I just can’t recommend starting a defense that’s given up over 60 combined points in their previous two games.

Houston Texans

Quarterback

C.J. Stroud
Davis Mills: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)

I hate to stick my neck out like this, but Davis Mills has looked pretty good. Please don’t hear what I’m not saying. Mills isn’t someone I’m excited to start, but it took just two starts for Mills to have more 250-yard passing games than Stroud this season. That being said, I’m only looking to start him on Thursday Night Football against the Bills in Superflex leagues. The Bills allow the fourth-fewest points to the position and have given up just 10 passing touchdowns this season.

Running Back

Woody Marks: START, RB2
Nick Chubb: SIT

The Texans teased us with a Week 4 Woody Marks backfield takeover, but this time it looks like the real deal. Marks has handled 80% of the carries over the past two games, including 100% of the carries inside the five. If that trend indeed holds on Thursday night, Marks should be able to put a hurting on Buffalo. The Bills have been tormented by running backs over the past two weeks, allowing a combined 365 yards and five touchdowns to De’Von Achane and Sean Tucker. Buffalo has surrendered a league high 14 rushing touchdowns to backs this season, setting up Marks as a solid RB2 with upside.

Wide Receiver

Nico Collins: START, WR1
Xavier Hutchinson: SIT
Christian Kirk: SIT
Jayden Higgins: SIT
Jaylin Noel: SIT

Nico Collins‘ resurgence continued against the Titans, as he got back into the endzone and had his second straight game over 22 fantasy points. The short play action touchdown was set up by multiple chunk plays off play action and Davis Mills peppering Collins with targets. Stroud has already been declared out, so rejoice if you roster Nico Collins. You get (at least) one more game with Mills under center. Even in a tough matchup against Buffalo, Collins is a WR1 with Mills laser-focused on getting him the ball. Collins’ 25 targets in Mills’ two starts are the most he’s seen this season. Jayden Higgins has been targeted seven times in each of Mills’ starts as well, but with a suboptimal matchup in a game projected to be one of the lowest scoring of the week, I’m avoiding all Texans receivers not named Nico.

Tight End

Dalton Schultz: START, TE1

Dalton Schultz has scored double-digit fantasy points in three of his last four games, but he gets a stiff test from Buffalo. The Bills are the worst matchup for fantasy for tight ends. Seeing eight or more targets in four of his last five games keeps Schultz in the conversation as a low-end TE1, but you run the risk of a goose egg considering how dominant Buffalo has been against the position.

Defense/Special Teams

Houston Texans: START

Even against Josh Allen, it’s hard to sit a defense allowing a league low 16.3 points per game. They’re not their typical top option, but Houston’s talented enough to warrant staying in any matchup.
