Atlanta Falcons
Quarterback
Michael Penix Jr.: SIT, QB2 (Startable in SuperFlex)
Michael Penix had an encouraging but uneven day. He looked great but had some badly off-target throws. Penix converted multiple tough 3rd downs and totaled two touchdowns. He’s not a starter in 1QB leagues, but a borderline option in Superflex.
Running Back
Bijan Robinson: START, RB1
Tyler Allgeier: SIT
You don’t need me to tell you to start Bijan Robinson. But did you know that Robinson’s favorite pregame music is an “Indie-Chill” instrumental band named Bonobo?
Wide Receiver
Drake London: START, WR1
Darnell Mooney: FLEX, WR4 (if active)
Ray-Ray McCloud III: SIT
Drake London has earned must-start status regardless of the matchup and is trending towards playing after leaving Week 1 with a shoulder injury. Darnell Mooney is far more uncertain, and at the time of writing, is more likely to sit and suit up. Keep an eye on his practice status throughout the end of the week. If he can play, Mooney is a solid FLEX as he works his way back from a shoulder injury of his own.
Tight End
Kyle Pitts Sr: START, TE1
The Kyle Pitts redemption tour started on a positive note, with Pitts catching seven passes for 59 yards and tying with Drake London for the team lead in targets. He’s locked in as an every-week starter as long as he continues to see 5+ targets.
Minnesota Vikings
Quarterback
J.J. McCarthy: START, QB1 Borderline
After looking completely overmatched for most of the first half, red-shirt rookie J.J. McCarthy turned it on and led the Vikings to an improbable comeback over the Bears on Monday Night Football. Facing an Atlanta defense that gave up three touchdowns to an underperforming Baker Mayfield, McCarthy is a fine start in all formats.
Running Back
Aaron Jones Sr.: FLEX, RB4
Jordan Mason: START, RB2
Ty Chandler: SIT
One of my bold calls this offseason was that Jordan Mason would take over the Vikings backfield in short order, and after what we saw in Week 1, it may happen sooner than even I expected. Aaron Jones salvaged a solid fantasy performance by coming down with a 27-yard touchdown catch. Mason was the far better back from a rushing perspective, and outcarried Jones 15 to 8. Call me crazy, but I consider Mason an RB2 and Jones nothing more than a FLEX. The floor is still decent as long as he remains involved in the pass-catching game, though.
Wide Receiver
Justin Jefferson: START, WR1
Jalen Nailor: SIT
Adam Thielen: SIT
You don’t need me to tell you to start Justin Jefferson. But did you know that Jefferson has his own cereal called “Jetta’s Mix”, a combo of Strawberry Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Frosted Lemon Cheerios? Until the return of Jordan Addison, no other Vikings receiver is startable for fantasy.
Tight End
T.J. Hockenson: START, TE1
It’s concerning that TJ Hockenson saw just four targets in his first game with JJ McCarthy, but I wouldn’t panic just yet. He’s still startable, but if the trend continues for multiple weeks, Hockenson could be relegated to streamer status.
