Game at a Glance
The Bucs are riding the high of a miracle 2-0 start with last-minute wins, while the Jets are fresh off a Buffalo mollywopping.
New York Jets
Quarterback
Justin Fields: START, QB1
Tyrod Taylor: *SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex if Fields inactive)
Jets coach Aaron Glenn confirmed Wednesday that Justin Fields would miss Week 3 due to the concussion sustained in Week 2 versus the Bills. The Buccaneers have allowed just two passing touchdowns on the season, but have given up the ninth-most passing yards. If you’re in a pinch in Superflex, Tyrod Taylor is a low upside fill-in, but look elsewhere if possible.
Running Back
Breece Hall: START, RB2
Braelon Allen: SIT
Isaiah Davis: SIT
Breece Hall struggled in Week 2, and things don’t get easier in Week 3. The Bucs rank inside the top five in both fewest rushing yards allowed and lowest yards per carry against. Preseason chatter of a potential committee proved to be hogwash, with Hall handling 29 rush attempts through two games compared to eight for Braelon Allen. He’s a volume-based RB2 and could see an uptick in touches if the Jets lean on the run with Fields out.
Wide Receiver
Garrett Wilson: START, WR2
Josh Reynolds: SIT
Tyler Johnson: SIT
I don’t anticipate much of a dropoff for Garrett Wilson with Taylor under center. Any negative impact from the step down for the Jets’ offense as a whole is negated by Taylor’s superior passing capability to that of Fields. Wilson is the only real pass-catching option for the Jets and should get peppered with targets from Taylor.
Tight End
Mason Taylor: SIT
Mason Taylor is not on the fantasy football radar.
Defense/Special Teams
New York Jets: SIT
The Jets’ defense has given up 64 points in two games.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Quarterback
Baker Mayfield: START, QB1
Although the passing yardage has left much to be desired, Baker Mayfield has five passing touchdowns through two games and is averaging 36 rushing yards. He’s nursing a minor foot injury, but is not expected to miss Week 3. It’s something to keep an eye on. If he suits up, Mayfield is a top-10 fantasy QB for Week 3, considering the matchup and loss of so many quality starting options.
Running Back
Bucky Irving: START, RB1
Rachaad White: FLEX, RB4
Bucky Irving has yet to score a rushing touchdown, yet he ranks as the RB11 in PPR thanks to his involvement in the passing game, averaging five targets a game so far. Irving is seeing over 20 touches a game and is locked in as a rock-solid RB1 for fantasy purposes. I’m not concerned with Rachaad White‘s increased usage in Week 2 when it comes to Irving’s status, but it does elevate White into flex consideration.
Wide Receiver
Mike Evans: START, WR3
Emeka Egbuka: START, WR2
Rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka scored in his second straight game, although he popped up on the Wednesday injury report with a hip-groin injury. At the time of writing, there was no word if he’s actually at risk of missing Week 3, but keep an eye on practice reports. Although Mike Evans leads the team in target share, Egbuka has the much higher upside at this point in their careers. They both profile as weekly WR2s, Egbuka the more volatile option and Evans a safer floor.
Tight End
Cade Otton: SIT
See Taylor, Mason. Replace name with Cade Otton. Read.
Defense/Special Teams
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: START
While the Bucs’ defense hasn’t been great this season, a matchup with the Taylor-led Jets puts them firmly in start status.
