Game at a Glance

Denver looks to bounce back from a heartbreaking last-second loss to the Colts, while the surprisingly pass-happy Chargers look to stay undefeated.

Denver Broncos

Quarterback

Bo Nix: START, Borderline QB1

Bo Nix looked much better in Week 2. He still had a low passing yardage total, but threw for three touchdowns and one interception against the Colts. Nix is averaging just under 20 rushing yards per game. He could struggle again in Week 3 against the Chargers, who have only allowed one passing touchdown and are tied for third in the NFL with three interceptions.

Running Back

J.K. Dobbins: FLEX, RB3
RJ Harvey: SIT
Tyler Badie: SIT

Expected to be a committee, it’s been anything but as J.K. Dobbins has handled 55.6% of Denver’s rushing attempts compared to just 20.4% for talented rookie RJ Harvey. Dobbins’ stranglehold on the Broncos’ backfield has him at a borderline RB2-RB3 flex option. Harvey definitely shouldn’t be dropped, but you can’t start him until he carves out a larger role.

Wide Receiver

Courtland Sutton: START, borderline WR2
Troy Franklin: FLEX, WR4
Marvin Mims Jr.: SIT

Courtland Sutton and Troy Franklin have taken turns as the top option for Nix over the first two weeks of the season. Sutton and Nix have a rapport built last season, but Franklin and Nix played together at Oregon. Sutton likely remains the WR1 for Denver, but Franklin could become the WR1b and drop Sutton’s ceiling and floor. Both are startable, but face a Chargers defense that’s allowed the seventh-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers this season.

Tight End

Evan Engram: SIT

Expected to play a major role in the Broncos’ offense as Sean Payton‘s joker, Evan Engram has been a colossal bust. He’s battling a back injury and is unstartable even if active. He’s not quite droppable yet, but he’s heading in that direction.

Defense/Special Teams

Denver Broncos: START

The Broncos’ defense got demolished by the Colts in Week 2, but remains one of the NFL’s most talented units and a near every-week startable D/ST.

Los Angeles Chargers

Quarterback

Justin Herbert: START, Borderline QB1

I was completely out on Justin Herbert coming into this season, and he could wind up one of my biggest misses. The Chargers are passing the ball way more than expected so far this season, and talent has never been the issue with Herbert. If he maintains around 30 pass attempts per game and chipping in 30ish yards on the ground, Herbert is a weekly starter in all formats.

Running Back

Omarion Hampton: FLEX, RB3
Najee Harris: FLEX, RB4

The Chargers’ run-heavy scheme last season and investment in Najee Harris and second-round rookie Omarion Hampton were major influences on my fade of Herbert coming into the season. But Hampton hasn’t lived up to the hype, and Harris had a preseason injury you couldn’t have guessed if I gave you 100 tries. Hampton’s sky-high upside remains intact. But until we see more consistent production out of him, he’s a borderline RB-flex option at best. That could change any given week, so DO NOT DROP HIM.

Wide Receiver

Ladd McConkey: START, WR2
Quentin Johnston: FLEX, WR4
Keenan Allen: FLEX, WR4

The return of Keenan Allen has had a more significant impact on Ladd McConkey than I think anybody imagined. McConkey still has a 23% target share, so does Quentin Johnston, and Allen leads the way with 26.2%. McConkey is the only one of the trio with no touchdown receptions and no end-zone targets either. McConkey is still a solid WR2, but with Johnston and Allen playing so well, his ceiling is capped. McConkey didn’t practice on Wednesday due to a bicep injury and is someone to keep an eye on as we head into Sunday. If McConkey were to miss, Allen and Johston would jump to WR3 status.

Tight End

Will Dissly: SIT

You’re not starting any Chargers tight end in fantasy.

Defense/Special Teams

Los Angeles Chargers: SIT

Even coming off a three-sack, three-interception game, the Chargers D/ST is best left on benches.
