Minnesota Vikings

Quarterback

Carson Wentz: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)

Carson Wentz played pretty well all things considered, but he didn’t face much of a challenge against the Jake Browning-led Bengals. The Steelers look like a good matchup on paper, allowing the fourth most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, but that’s a bit skewed by Justin Fields balling out Week 1. Pittsburgh has given up five passing touchdowns, but is holding opponents to 246.7 passing yards per game, seventh lowest in the league. Wentz is a passable play in Superflex leagues, but look elsewhere if you have another viable option.

Running Back

Jordan Mason: START, RB1
Zavier Scott: SIT

Full disclosure, watching Jordan Mason accumulate 116 rushing yards and two touchdowns in just three quarters left me a little verklempt.

Among backs with at least 10 carries in Week 3, Mason ranked inside the top 5 in rushing yards, yards per carry, and explosive run rate. He looks every bit the part of a lead back and is locked in as a high-end RB2. The Steelers have allowed the sixth-most rushing yards per game and allowed the 11th-most fantasy points per game to the position. It’s Mason season, bay bay!

Wide Receiver

Justin Jefferson: START, WR1
Jordan Addison: FLEX, WR4
Jalen Nailor: SIT
Adam Thielen: SIT

Normally, I’d hit you with the “fun fact” for Justin Jefferson since he’s a set-it-and-forget-it type of player, but considering he has Carson Wentz under center, some discussion is warranted. Wentz did enough to keep JJettas firmly in must-start territory and targeted him seven times. Jordan Addison‘s return from suspension relegated Jalen Nailor back to waiver fodder, although he was pretty much there even without Addison in the lineup. The Steelers are an overall neutral matchup for receivers, but both are worth starting, with Addison being more of a FLEX play until we see how he’s utilized.

Tight End

T.J. Hockenson: START, TE1

We all know the history of Carson Wentz with Tight ends, and he brought T.J. Hockenson back to the fantasy world with five catches on six targets and his first touchdown of the season. Hock’s off to a rocky start this season, but a bit of Wentz was all he needed to return to weekly start consideration.

Defense/Special Teams

Minnesota Vikings: START

The Vikings D/ST is among the league leaders with seven sacks and scored two touchdowns against the Bengals in Week 3. There in weekly start consideration.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Quarterback

Aaron Rodgers: SIT

Since his Week 1 blast from the past, Aaron Rodgers has been more like Meh-ron Rodgers, amirite?

Over the past two weeks, Rodgers has thrown a trio of both touchdowns and interceptions, and totaled 342 passing yards. Facing the Vikings’ ferocious pass rush, he’s not even a consideration for Superflex leagues.

Running Back

Jaylen Warren: START, RB2
Kenneth Gainwell: SIT
Kaleb Johnson: SIT

If it wasn’t for Jaylen Warren‘s involvement in the passing game, he’d have a home firmly on fantasy football benches. But over the past two weeks, Warren’s totaled 10 targets, 9 catches, and 120 receiving yards. Regardless of the matchup, volume and passing game involvement keep Warren a startable RB2, albeit with limited upside.

Wide Receiver

Dk Metcalf: START, WR3
Calvin Austin III: SIT

For the second week in a row, DK Metcalf came down with a highlight reel catch for a touchdown, but that’s about it.

Metcalf has averaged three catches and 26 yards over his past two, making him nothing more than a volatile WR3. Calvin Austin came down with his second touchdown of the season as well, but he is just a TD-dependent desperation FLEX. The Vikings are the toughest fantasy matchup for opposing wide receivers, so sit him this week.

Tight End

Pat Freiermuth: SIT
Jonnu Smith: SIT

Neither Steelers tight end is even on the streaming radar.

Defense/Special Teams

Pittsburgh Steelers: STREAMER (1 Week)

Even facing Justin Jefferson and Jordan Mason, Carson Wentz isn’t intimidating enough to consider sitting the Steelers D/ST. Pittsburgh is tied with Indianapolis and Jacksonville for the league lead with a +5 turnover differential and has eight sacks on the season.
