Washington Commanders
Quarterback
Jayden Daniels: START, QB1
You don’t need me to tell you to start Jayden Daniels. But did you know his go-to guilty pleasure snack is Honey Buns?
Running Back
Jacory Croskey-Merritt: : FLEX, RB4
Chris Rodriguez Jr.: SIT
Jeremy McNichols: SIT
The dream of Jacrory Croskey-Merritt taking over the Commanders’ backfield is looking bleaker by the day. Chris Rodriguez led the way in Week 3 with 11 carries and handled almost all the work on the first two drives. Bill did have one of the two backfield touchdowns, but that was after two failed attempts to punch it in from the one (JCM and Mariota once each), the third time he was able to punch it. Jeremy McNichols toe to the Rock four times. And on his very first carry, he broke multiple tackles, ran through a defender, and then just outran everybody for a 60-yard touchdown. I have a feeling the backfield for the Commanders is going to be one of those increasingly frustrating week-to-week situations, that it’s a headache for fantasy managers that you’re not going to want any part of. I’m avoiding starting any of the Washington backs against the Falcons, who allow the 6th fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs. If you want to risk it, JCM is the only lottery ticket worth scratching.
Wide Receiver
Terry McLaurin: START, WR3* (Not Practicing as of 9/24)
Deebo Samuel: START, WR3
The slow start to the season continues for Terry McLaurin, despite a season-best 74 receiving yards. He had a touchdown catch overturned and was called down at the one, accumulating 56 of his 74 yards on a single catch. McLaurin left the game early with a quad injury and has yet to practice ahead of Week 4 at the time of writing. After seeing 18 targets over the first two games, Deebo Samuel was targeted just three times in Week 3. Neither he nor Terry McLaurin played much of the fourth quarter, and the game was in control most of the afternoon, so there isn’t any concern for Samuel’s rest of the season outlook. In a tough matchup (Atlanta allows the fifth fewest points to wide receivers), both are WR3s. If Scary Terry were to miss the game, Deebo would jump to a low-end WR2.
Tight End
Zach Ertz: STREAMER, TE2
Zach Ertz wasn’t asked to do much but came down with all three of his targets in Week 3. His rapport with Daniels this season keeps Ertz in the low-end streamer range.
Defense/Special Teams
Washington Commanders: STREAMER (One Week)
The Falcons’ offense is as dysfunctional as they come. Washington is a solid one-week streamer.
Atlanta Falcons
Quarterback
Michael Penix Jr.: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)
Michael Penix played poorly for the second straight game, leading the Falcons to a whopping zero point zero points. He threw an ugly pick-six to end the third quarter. Penix also underthrew a wide-open Ray-Ray McLoud III on fourth down, and he was benched for Kirk Cousins. Now granted, the game was out of hand at that point, but it’s something to keep an eye on if he continues to struggle this badly. Washington has been a fantasy-friendly matchup for opposing quarterbacks, giving up the 7th most fantasy points to the position, but Penix is only in starting consideration for Superflex.
Running Back
Bijan Robinson: START, RB1
Tyler Allgeier: SIT
You don’t need me to tell you to start Bijan Robinson. But did you know his grandfather, Cleo Robinson, has worked as a Pac-12 official for nearly three decades and was a part of twenty-one bowl games!
Wide Receiver
Drake London: START, WR1
Darnell Mooney: SIT
Ray-Ray McCloud III: SIT
Drake London is still seeing enough volume to be considered a must-start, but if Michael Penix continues to struggle, that may change. London is falling into borderline WR1/high-end WR2 territory, but that likely changes if/when the Atlanta offense turns it around. Even in a top 10 fantasy match-up against the Commanders, as poorly as Penix is playing, it’s best to bench Darnell Mooney.
Tight End
Kyle Pitts Sr.: START, TE1
As long as he continues to average six or more targets a game, Kyle Pitts remains a starter for fantasy. If the Atlanta offense can get back on track this week, Washington offers a top 10 fantasy matchup for tight ends.
Defense/Special Teams
Atlanta Falcons: SIT
The Falcons D/ST is too inconsistent to consider an every-week start, and you’re not streaming them against Jayden Daniels and co.
