Miami Dolphins
Quarterback
Malik Willis: SIT
If this is what all the hype was for Malik Willis as a late-round fantasy pick, I’m glad I don’t have any shares. If he could muster only 220 passing yards, 39 rushing yards, a pick, and a rushing touchdown against the Raiders, there’s no way on God’s green earth I’m starting him against the same 49ers defense that shut down the Rams in the land down under.
Running Back
De’Von Achane: START, RB2
Jaylen Wright: SIT
It’s waaaaayyyyy too early for any victory laps. But maybe I’ll take a tiny victory two step, because what we saw with De’Von Achane in week 1 was exactly why I faded him at cost this season. He’s an elite talent, and I’ve never tried to argue otherwise. But this team is awful. There’s nobody else on the Dolphins that strikes fear in opposing defenses, so naturally all the focus will be on slowing down Achane. He’ll get a ton of work, but Achane’s ceiling is a few stories lower than the past few seasons.
Wide Receiver
Chris Bell: SIT
Caleb Douglas: FLEX, WR4
Malik Washington: SIT
Malik Washington led the team in targets, Caleb Douglas led the team in receiving yards, and Chris Bell is also a member of the team. Douglas is a dart throw upside play at FLEX in hopes he can come down with a garbage-time touchdown. If he’s somehow on your waivers in a Dynasty format, run and grab him before somebody else does.
Tight End
Greg Dulcich: SIT
Fantastic stash. Mustache…fantastic mustache. Not a bench stash.
Defense/Special Teams
Miami Dolphins: SIT
Go see what I said about the Dolphins defense in the Week 1 edition of this piece.
San Francisco 49ers
Quarterback
Brock Purdy: START, QB1
Brock Purdy didn’t have a yard party, but three tuddys and a little wiggle was just enough to get the Niners a comfortable win and likely his fantasy managers too. Purdy looks like his peak self, and against the Dolphins, he’s an easy start in all formats.
Running Back
Christian McCaffrey: START, RB1
Kaelon Black: FLEX, RB3
Christian McCaffrey is a no-doubt starter every week. He’s the 93 octane at the pump. He costs more, and every single person in the parking lot has a theory about whether you actually need it. The snap share trended down in Week 1 (only 55% of snaps played), but as long as he’s active, you’re starting one of the great cheat codes of fantasy in the 21st century. Kaelon Black surprisingly out-carried CMC 14 to 10, but the passing volume keeps CMC in RB1 territory. McCaffrey came down with five of eight targets and handled 100% of the Niners red zone carries. Black is FLEX-worthy if he continues to see double-digit touches. I’m willing to throw him into lineups requiring multiple FLEX spots this week in a game that should get out of hand quickly.
Wide Receiver
Mike Evans: START, WR2
Deebo Samuel Sr: FLEX, WR4
De’Zhaun Stribling: OUT
Seven targets each for Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel Sr., and the virtually split first-read targets. I’d expect both to see slightly fewer targets as George Kittle gets healthy, but De’Zhaun Stribling is out for the next couple of months, so there’s no logjam for targets just yet. Oh, and they play the Dolphins this week. Start players who play the Dolphins.
Tight End
George Kittle: START, TE1
George Kittle led the team in first-read targets despite running routes on less than half his snap percentage. He’ll get back to form with each passing week as he gets healthier.
Defense/Special Teams
San Francisco 49ers: START
Oh yes.
