Detroit Lions

Quarterback

Jared Goff: START (in Superflex), Borderline QB1

Jared Goff‘s day wasn’t a dome sweet dome blow-up, but he completed 26/39 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns in Detroit’s 31-30 overtime win over NOLA. So it could have been much worse.  Goff didn’t throw a pick but almost had a costly fumble. Chase Young blindsided Goff in the second quarter on what initially looked like a strip-sack returned for a Saints touchdown, but replay changed it to an incomplete pass. Nothing flashy, but two scores and no lost turnovers will get the job done. Buffalo allowed 250+ and two touchdowns to C.J. Stroud, so Goff is in great shape for TNF.

Running Back

Jahmyr Gibbs: START, RB1

Jahmyr Gibbs proved he was more than worthy of the first overall pick in nearly all formats in just one Week. Gibbs 24.1% explosive run rate was 2nd only to Jonathan Taylor, but his speed is nothing new. What is new is Gibbs getting 100% of the goal line carries. With former running mate David Montgomery in Houston, Gibbs took all eight of the Lions’ carries inside the five. Sonic could wind up matching Knuckles’ three-touchdown performance from a week ago.

Wide Receiver/Tight End

Amon-Ra St. Brown: START, WR1
Jameson Williams: START, WR2
Isaac Teslaa: SIT
Sam Laporta: START, TE1

There is no simulation of this week where you sit Amon-Ra St. Brown. He’s the gas station fountain drink machine. Never gets enough credit when it does the same job as the bottled drinks, just at half the price.

Unsurprisingly, ARSB led the team with 13 targets, but Jameson Williams wasn’t too far behind him with nine. Jamo did have some issues with drops, but it’s not something I’m concerned about long-term. The distribution of targets in Detroit was pretty much four guys: Gibbs, ARSB, Jamo, and Isaac TeSlaa only ran 73.2: route% and it’s on the FLEX radar. LaPorta’s 17.9% target share locks him in as a weekly must-start.

Defense/Special Teams

Detroit Lions: SIT

Did you see what Josh Allen just did to the Texans’ defense?

Buffalo Bills

Quarterback

Josh Allen: START, QB1

You already know to start Josh Allen. He’s the 99-cent Arnold Palmer you grab from the fridge: you know exactly what to expect, and it delivers every time. Oh, and he’s tall.

Running Back

James Cook III: START, RB1
Ty Johnson: SIT
Ray Davis: SIT

I’m not worrying about James Cook, and neither should you. On Thursday night against the Lions, Cook could be in for another low rushing total, as the Lions only allowed 91 rushing yards in Week 1. It’s not due to Detroit’s ability to stop the run; their secondary is just that bad. The good news for Cook is he still should have a bounce-back game, as the Lions gave up a league-high 8 receptions to running backs in Week 1 (tied with three other teams). Fire him up without hesitation.

Wide Receiver

DJ Moore: START, WR1
Khalil Shakir: FLEX, WR4
Keon Coleman: SIT

Oh yeah, I’m jumping right on that DJ Moore bandwagon with zero shame. At least for Week 2. His touchdown catch was a tad fluky, but Moore led the team in targets with seven and rocked a fantastical 21.3 average depth of target and 4.17 yards per route run. I may be getting a little excited, but I have him ranked as a WR1 this week. Khalil Shakir is tempting based on the matchup and only finishing one target behind Moore in Week 1, but a 3.8 ADoT and 2.38 yards per route run give me pause and prevent me from slotting him in as anything more than a FLEX play. Keon Coleman is still on the Bills roster.

Tight End

Dalton Kincaid: START, TE1

It wasn’t just wide receivers who ate against the Lions last week; it was the tight end position too. Juwan Johnson and Noah Fant (NOah?) both came down with touchdowns (albeit LATE in the game), which is great news for Dalton Kincaid. The Bills TE finished the week with the highest yards per route run at the position, catching five of his six targets for 130 yards and an ADoT of 15.7. That’ll do.

Defense/Special Teams

Buffalo Bills: SIT

Did you see what CJ Stroud just did to the Bills’ defense?
