New York Jets
Quarterback
Geno Smith: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)
Geno Smith has thrown one touchdown this season and is averaging fewer than 250 passing yards per game. But the nausea-inducing secondart in Detroit ranks among the three worst teams against the pass, allowing the second-most passing yards, total yards, and fourth-most passing touchdowns on this young season. If you’re in a pinch, Geno is a dart throw start in Superflex leagues. And now I’m thinking about Jaxson Dart again. Sobs.
Running Back
Breece Hall: START, RB2
Braelon Allen: SIT
Isaiah Davis: SIT
The Lions haven’t been able to stop the pass, and they’ve also not been able to stop the run. Detroit allows the fifth-most rushing yards and third-most rushing touchdowns per game. Breece Hall is the unquestioned bell cow in the Jets backfield, averaging nearly 20 rushing attempts and four targets per game. Braelon Allen handles most of the third-down work, but Hall has enough of the volume locked down to make him an auto-start RB2 most weeks, and a borderline RB1 with such a juicy matchup on deck.
Wide Receiver
Garrett Wilson: START, WR1
Adonai Mitchell: FLEX, WR4
Isaiah Williams: SIT
The emergence of Adonai Mitchell as one of Geno Smith‘s favorite targets has surprisingly capped the target volume of Garrett Wilson through the first two weeks, with Mitchell actually sporting the slightly larger target share (23.1% to 21.5%). While nobody realistically expects this to hold all season, it does make Mitchell an interesting FLEX play in such a delightful fantasy matchup. Wilson jumps into the top 12 against the Lions.
Tight End
Kenyon Sadiq: SIT
Mason Taylor: SIT
Even with the Lions ranking as the top fantasy matchup for opposing tight ends, neither Kenyon Sadiq nor Mason Taylor is seeing enough volume to be considered even Week 3 streamers.
Defense/Special Teams
New York Jets: SIT
The Lions are averaging over 30 points per game.
Detroit Lions
Quarterback
Jared Goff: START, QB1
Jared Goff is chucking the ball nearly 40 times per game, averaging over 260 passing yards and three passing touchdowns per game, all while not turning the ball over. Oh, and he’s at Dome Sweet Dome.
Running Back
Jahmyr Gibbs: START, RB1
Jahmyr Gibbs is an auto start, just like Slinky-Dog Dash is an auto ride at Disney. Looks harmless, is universally loved, and by the time you realize how fast he actually is, it’s already too late.
Wide Receiver
Amon-Ra St. Brown: START, WR1
Jameson Williams: START, WR3
Somehow every offseason, people hesitate to draft Amon-Ra St. Brown, yet he winds up a weekly must-start. Kinda like how people hesitate to ride the “People Mover” at Disney, but once they do, they realize that it’s dependable, always delivers, and somehow you appreciate it more every year. Can you tell I’m at Disney World this week?
I dunno what to really say about Jameson Williams other than he is what he’s always been. A highly volatile back end WR2/high end WR3 who you start every single week and eat the zeros so you can eat the W’s on spike weeks. Last season, we saw Jamo’s production spike when Dan Campbell took over play-calling duties. This year, it’s new OC Drew Petzing calling plays, and it hasn’t been a boon for Williams through two weeks. I’d understand if you want to look elsewhere this week and wait to see the Lions follow through on their promise to expand his route tree before plugging him into your lineup.
Tight End
Sam LaPorta: START, TE1
Sam LaPorta seems to be back among the elite options at tight end, especially since Brock Bowers has been sidelined. Over seven targets a game, only two first-read targets behind Jamo for second most on the team, and a nearly 20% target share. That’ll do, Sam, that’ll do.
Defense/Special Teams
Detroit Lions: STREAMER
This feels really gross, but at home against Geno Smith, I’d gamble on streaming the Lions if you need upside. Just know it’s a big gamble. Like, hitting on a 17 kind of gamble.
