Los Angeles Chargers
Quarterback
Justin Herbert: START (in Superflex), Borderline QB1
Ok. Now I’m officially worried. More interceptions than touchdowns and averaging a smidge over 200 passing yards per game is not what I expected with the Justin Herbert/Mike McDaniel combo. Hopefully a matchup with the Bills is exactly what the doctor ordered to get this offense back on track, with Buffalo allowing 31 points and nearly 400 total yards of offense per game to opponents. I’m still starting Herbert in all formats as long as I don’t have a top-tier option, but I understand the hesitation in doing so.
Running Back
Omarion Hampton: START, RB1
Keaton Mitchell: SIT
Kimani Vidal: SIT
Omarion Hampton, sir, you have one more week of me ranking you as an RB1 before you’re pushing borderline RB2 status. The volume is there; the production is…not. The entire offense has been a hodgepodge of horrible, and honestly I’m just hoping a potential shootout with the Bills is what the Chargers offense needs to all get right.
Wide Receiver
Ladd McConkey: START, WR2
Quentin Johnston: FLEX, WR4
Tre’ Harris: SIT
Ladd McConkey is playing banged up, and Quentin Johnston is playing like he’s banged up, but this is the type of get-right matchup that this offense needs right now. McConkey understandably saw a more limited snap share in last week’s game after exiting early in Week 1, but he should be closer to a full workload here, especially in a matchup where the Chargers will need their best playmakers to compete. I have no issues starting either, as long as you understand QJ is just as likely to get you 0.2 as he is to get you 20.2 fantasy points.
Tight End
Oronde Gadsden: SIT
Charlie Kolar and David Njoku were both placed on IR, and I still have zero interest in starting Oronde Gadsden unless I see some fireworks this week.
Defense/Special Teams
Los Angeles Chargers

Buffalo Bills
Quarterback
Josh Allen: START, QB1
Josh Allen is an auto-start and arguably the best at what he does, kind of like the Guardians of the Galaxy ride at EPCOT. He’s simultaneously reckless and yet completely in control at all times. No matter how much stress or anxiety it causes, you’d hop right back in line to do it all over again.
Running Back
James Cook III: START, RB2
Ty Johnson: SIT
Ray Davis: SIT
A relatively slow start for James Cook shouldn’t have been of any concern for his fantasy managers. He bounced back after a sub-10-point Week 1 with a 20+ pointer against the Lions. Cook is still averaging over 20 opportunities per game and ranks in the top five in yards per carry (5.65) and explosive run rate (8.8%).
Wide Receiver
DJ Moore: Likely OUT
Khalil Shakir: FLEX, WR4
Keon Coleman: SIT
DJ Moore left the Week 2 shootout on Thursday night against the Lions with what wound up being an AC joint sprain, which was one of the better outcomes. He returned to limited practice on Wednesday donning the red non-contact jersey, signifying that while he’s likely not out long-term, playing Week 3 is a long shot. Considering the matchup, Khalil Shakir should be started as a low-end FLEX, and even though Keon Coleman benefits with Moore out, I’m not ready to start him under any circumstances.
Tight End
Dalton Kincaid: START, TE1
Dalton Kincaid is averaging over 20 fantasy points per game and facing a defense allowing the eighth-most points to the position. With (if) no DJ Moore, Kincaid has no reason not to finish Week 3 as the TE1.
Defense/Special Teams
Buffalo Bills: STREAMER
I’d prefer to not start a defense allowing over 30 points per game in a matchup with an implied total over 50. But as poorly as the Chargers have started this season, the Bills make for an interesting gamble as a streaming defense.
