Los Angeles Rams
Quarterback
Matthew Stafford: START in Superflex, QB2
An Honest Abe performance on Monday Night Football, besmirched only slightly by an ugly pick early in the game. Stafford is The Haunted Mansion ride. It’s been there forever, and people seem to really like it. It’s not my favorite, and it moves kind of slow, but it’s entertaining, and I’ll ride it every time I’m there. Just don’t expect a lifelong memory in Mile High against a Broncos defense that just held Trevor Lawrence to 189 scoreless yards. Without Puka Nacua, I’d probably lean towards a sit here.
Running Back
Kyren Williams: START, RB2
Blake Corum: FLEX, RB3
Ronnie Rivers: SIT
The Denver Broncos rushing defense has allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to running backs through two weeks of the season. Most of that is due to KWIII’s breakout Week 1 performance, but that still bodes well for the Rams’ backfield. Kyren Williams has been the starter in both games this season, but it truly felt like the Rams were alternating drives with their running backs last time out, letting each one play through the entire drive until they got winded. It just so happened that Williams was on the field for their touchdown drive where they found the running back on an option route, while Blake Corum‘s drives seemed to all end with Davante Adams touchdowns. The point being, this backfield split is closer than it appears in box scores. I’ll start both, but I’m a little lower on Williams and a little higher on Corum than consensus.
Wide Receiver
Davante Adams: START, WR2
Puka Nacua: START, WR1
Jordan Whittington: SIT
Any other warm body: SIT
This wide receiver room is pretty straightforward. Start Puka if he plays. Start Davante if he doesn’t (Adams becomes a FLEX play if Puka suits up). And sit everybody else.
Tight End
Terrance Ferguson: SIT (START if Puka sits)
Colby Parkinson: SIT
Davis Allen: SIT
Max Klare: SIT
Mike Yagoobian: SIT
Tyler Higbee: SIT
Ferguson is the only Rams tight end that I have any interest in, and that’s only if Puka misses another game. Ferguson stepped into what I would consider the WR2 role in Nacua’s absence on Monday night, with six catches on nine targets for 54 yards and a touchdown. Hopefully for fantasy managers, Stafford’s trust and chemistry with Ferguson will continue to grow to the point where he might even get some looks with Puka on the field, too. Bonus points if you can name the Disney reference without looking it up.
Defense/Special Teams
Los Angeles Rams: START
Aaron Donald vs. Bo Nix. I’ll take that matchup any day.
Denver Broncos
Quarterback
Bo Nix: SIT
Nix looked much better in the second half of Week 2, slinging the rock for 288 yards on a 71.0% completion rate, but I still don’t trust the inconsistency. It took Nix six quarters of football to tap into whatever talent he has in that right arm, and as a fantasy manager I don’t have that kind of patience for a fringe top-12 quarterback. Against this Rams defense this week, I want no part of Nix’s inconsistencies and sporadic lapses in decision-making.
Running Back
J.K. Dobbins: OUT?
Rj Harvey: INJURED?
Jonah Coleman: POTENTIALLY INACTIVE ON SUNDAY?
Tyler Badie: SIT
I have no idea what’s going on in this running back room, but starting the starter here is fine, I guess. The problem is figuring out who the starter is going to be. Harvey was ruled out for Week 2, Dobbins left mid-game with an injury, and Coleman stepped up and looked just fine, finishing with a touchdown run that everybody was pretty excited about (and a relatively pedestrian 3.9 yards per carry, which nobody seems to mention). Flash forward to Wednesday, and both Harvey and Dobbins are limited, but Coleman did not practice! Keep an eye on this situation as we get closer to game time, and if whoever is on your team is good to go, start them. Except Tyler Badie. Don’t do that to yourself.
Wide Receiver
Courtland Sutton: FLEX, WR4
Jaylen Waddle: START, WR2
Pat Bryant: FLEX, WR4
It’s about time that Jaylen Waddle established himself as the alpha wide receiver in this offense. It only took until Week 2 to get him to 10 targets, and he did wonders with them. I want to see it again, this time against a better defense, but I’m on board. Pat Bryant and Courtland Sutton are nearly identical from a fantasy perspective, with Sutton owning a slight edge in snap share over each of the first two weeks of the season. Despite not getting a single target in Week 2, Bryant still finished with a 66% snap share, which is enough for me to buy low on the young receiver in what ought to be a relatively high-powered offense.
Tight End
Evan Engram: SIT
We saw signs of life in Week 1, but then he was virtually eliminated from the game plan in Week 2 while being out-produced by Nate Adkins and out-snapped by Adam Trautman. Any self-respecting manager deserves better than Evan Engram.
Defense/Special Teams
Denver Broncos: SIT
I know you probably drafted this team as one of the top defensive units in the league, but this matchup is no bueno, and the Broncos haven’t been world-beaters in their two games so far this season. I’d prefer to stream a middling defense with a better matchup this week.
