Philadelphia Eagles
Quarterback
Jalen Hurts: START, Borderline QB1
Think Jalen Hurts wishes he still had AJ Brown right about now? No DeVonta Smith. No Saquon Barkley. No Dallas Goedert. No Tank Bigsby. His rushing production has been underwelming, with just one touchdown and under 30 yards in three of four games. But he’ll likely have to run more with checks notes… Will Shipley starting… giving Hurts enough of a floor to remain in borderline QB1 discussion. Jacksonville has shut out opposing quarterbacks, though, so I have no issue starting a guy with a good matchup like Jacoby Brissett over him.
Running Back
Saquon Barkley: OUT
Tank Bigsby: IR
Will Shipley: SIT
Saquon Barkley came up grabbing his hamstring in Week 4, and the entire fantasy community simultaneously gasped. Tank Bigsby came in and looked good, then got hurt himself. Barkely’s injury isn’t considered long-term, but he’ll almost assuredly miss Week 5. Bigsby was placed on the IR after having surgery and will miss at minimum the next four games.
You’re not starting Will Shipley. The Jags are allowing under 50 yards rushing per game to opposing RBs. And, it’s Will Shipley.
Wide Receiver
DeVonta Smith: OUT
Dontayvion Wicks: START, WR3
Makai Lemon: FLEX, WR4
It sounds like DeVonta Smith could miss multiple more weeks, leaving Dontayvion Wicks at the head of the table for the Eagles WR corps. We’ve seen the upside, and he’s already averaged five targets per game. The Jags are a top-10 fantasy matchup for wide receivers despite allowing just one touchdown to them, making Wicks a WR3 with upside. Makai Lemon has yet to show anything on the professional level, but talent and opportunity place him in FLEX range.
Tight End
Dallas Goedert: SIT
Johnny Mudnt: SIT
No official call as of the time of writing, but expect Dallas Goedert to miss Week 5. If he somehow plays, I lean sit, but I would understand streaming him given the depleted offense for Philly. Johnny Mudnt sounds like a Madden create-a-player name. He also sounds like an easy sit.
Defense/Special Teams
Philadelphia Eagles: SIT
This defense is #notgood.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Quarterback
Trevor Lawrence: START, QB1
Those of us expecting a high-flying shootout with the Bengals were immensely disappointed with Trevor Lawrence’s fantasy output in Week 4. But TLaw and the entire Jaguars offense should bounce back bigly against an Eagles defense that ranks among the top 10 fantasy matchups for QBs. He hasn’t thrown for 250 yards and has multiple touchdowns in only 50% of his games, but don’t hesitate to start Lawrence at QB1 in Week 5.
Running Back
Bhayshul Tuten: START, RB2
Chris Rodriguez Jr: FLEX
Bhayshul Tuten is averaging 13 fantasy points per game and has been a solid RB2, but he could be doing better. That’s if it weren’t for Chris Rodriguez Jr. It’s not like Rodriguez is setting the world on fire, but his 27% carry share, 38% red zone carry share, and 35.6% snap share on 3rd downs do just enough to shave roughly six points a game off the top for Tuten. Philly’s allowing over 20 points per game to the running back position, a good enough matchup to make both startable. After getting two touchdowns called back last week, we’re hoping the Jags can do right by Tuten and help him get in the end zone again in London.
Wide Receiver
Parker Washington: START, Borderline WR1
Jakobi Meyers: START, WR3
Brian Thomas Jr: FLEX, WR4
All three Jaguars receivers were held under 10 points against the Bengals, and Jakobi Meyers led the unit in targets for the second straight game. Parker Washington still has a commanding lead on the season’s target share, however, with over a quarter of them at 26.3% compared to 15.2% for Meyers and 14.1% for Brian Thomas Jr.. A top 10 fantasy matchup against the Eagles makes all three startable in fantasy, with Washington coming in as a borderline WR1 as he seems to be the guy for Tlaw. Meyers is a WR3 who has a safer floor than FLEX play BTJ.
Tight End
Brenton Strange: tHe gLoB
Shoutout to my partner in crime Brett Ford for calling the Brenton Strange play last week. But it’s back to tHe gLoB.
No, not you, Brett.
The Eagles allow the third-fewest points to TEs in the league, so it’s a whole nother ball game compared to what we saw from Cincy’s TE-funnel defense. Don’t get enamored with last week’s line and chase something that isn’t (likely) there.
Defense/Special Teams
Jacksonville Jaguars: START
The Jags defense has been volatile but has 10 sacks on the season and gets an Eagles team with multiple stars missing.
