Minnesota Vikings

Quarterback

Kyler Murray: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)

I’ll admit, it’s not been a pretty start to the season for Kyler Murray. But my point remains from last week: he’s yet to play even half a game with Justin Jefferson. He didn’t get into the end zone against Miami, but Murray threw for a season-high 247 passing yards and didn’t turn the ball over. I want to see more before I’m ready to even consider starting him in 1QB leagues, but a matchup with the Saints’ porous defense feels like it could be a great spot for the Vikings offense.

Running Back

Aaron Jones Sr: START, RB1
Demond Claiborne: SIT
Deejay Dallas: SIT

As long as Jordan Mason remains on the sidelines and Aaron Jones Sr. is seeing over 20 combined carries and targets per game, he’s a borderline must start. I threw up in my mouth a little bit slotting him in as an RB1, but the Saints allow the most points to the position and the old man has proven he’s still got a little bit of wiggle left. I stand corrected.

Wide Receiver

Justin Jefferson: START WR1 (If Active)
Jordan Addison: START, WR2

Jauan Jennings: SIT

If Justin Jefferson is active, you start him. Jefferson said on Wednesday that he intends to play, but with a Week 6 bye on tap, it’s not outrageous to think the Vikings could hold him out to give him a full three weeks to heal. Jordan Addison is a WR2 regardless of whether Jefferson returns or not, but his floor drops just a bit if JJettas is a go.

Tight End

T.J. Hockenson: STREAMER

Out of nowhere like a Randy Orton RKO, T.J. Hockenson caught 13 of 13 targets for 119 yards in Week 4 to total 24.9 fantasy points. The dude combined for nine total fantasy points in Weeks 2 and 3. If Jefferson indeed sits, Hockenson would bump from streamer to start. But it feels real gross.

Defense/Special Teams

Minnesota Vikings: START

The Vikings have the delicious duo of most sacks and fewest fantasy points allowed per game.

New Orleans Saints

Quarterback

Tyler Shough: START (in Superflex), Borderline QB1

It’s not so much that Tyler Shough is coming off his first game with just a single touchdown that bumps him outside the top 12. It’s the matchup against a Minnesota defense allowing the fewest points to the position, and that whole “most sacks, fewest points” thing. I’d stream Jacoby Brissett this week before hopping back in the Shough Trough.

Running Back

Alvin Kamara: FLEX, RB3
Kendre Miller: SIT
Cj Donaldson: SIT

Alvin Kamara didn’t practice on Wednesday, and his status is unclear for Sunday. There’s a very good chance this was just a day off for the vet, but keep an eye on it as the week progresses. He’s coming off a 22.8-point game against the Falcons, but these ain’t the Falcons. Minnesota is the worst matchup for running backs for fantasy, keeping Kamara in FLEXville if he’s a go.

Wide Receiver

Chris Olave: START, WR1
Devaughn Vele: START, WR3
Bryce Lance: SIT

Chris Olave is pretty much a must-start at this point, regardless of matchup. but Devaugn Vele currently sits as the WR16 on the year and is himself emerging as someone that can be trusted more often than not. It’s not an ideal matchup, but with byes and injuries, you can do a whole lot worse than a guy averaging over eight targets per game.

Tight End

Juwan Johnson: START, TE1

Juwan Johnson’s volume keeps him a TE1 each and every week, but a bottom-five matchup against the Vikings likely caps his ceiling.

Defense/Special Teams

New Orleans Saints: SIT

New Orleans allows the most points per game in the entire league (32) and averages less than a single takeaway per game. Oh, and they’re on a short week.
