Detroit Lions
Quarterback
Jared Goff: START, QB1
Jared Goff had his first game under 200 passing yards and threw his first interception in Week 8, but that’s understandable facing the stingy Vikings defense. Miami is a top-three matchup and has already given up 16 passing touchdowns this season. Goff is still an auto start until further notice. If he’s not playing in a dome, there are far worse options than Miami.
Running Back
Jahmyr Gibbs: START, RB1
People actually wondered if Jahmyr Gibbs could handle the whole workload. Now he’s arguably the RB1 in the NFL. He’s the guy carrying every grocery bag inside in one trip. Everyone thinks it’s too much, right up until he does it with ease and makes two trips seem ridiculous.
Wide Receiver
Amon-Ra St. Brown: START, WR1
Jameson Williams: START, WR3
Isaac Teslaa: SIT
Miami is one of the worst fantasy matchups for receivers, allowing fewer than 10 catches per game to the position, but that’s more so a reason to be tepid about Jameson Williams‘ status this week than anything else. Jamo can always make things happen with a big play and has been scoring touchdowns in bunches, but if the Lions get up big early, it could be a bust game for Jamo. Starting Amon-Ra St. Brown, meanwhile, is like your password autofilling when you can’t remember what it is. No reset. No verification code. We’re in, baby. And, come on–you don’t draft a guy in the first round just to sit him in a less-than-ideal matchup. Them’s the rules.
Tight End
Sam LaPorta: START, TE1
Sam LaPorta currently sits as the TE6 in points per game this season and should feast in a top-10 matchup with the Dolphins. This is the same defense that gave up two touchdowns and 62 yards to Mason Taylor just two weeks ago.
Defense/Special Teams
Detroit Lions: START
The Lions average over three sacks per game and Miami scores less than 17 points per game.
Miami Dolphins
Quarterback
Malik Willis: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)
If your starting quarterback is facing the Detroit Lions, he’s at minimum startable in Superflex. The Lions have allowed at least two passing touchdowns in every game this season and are by far the best fantasy matchup for QBs. Malik Willis has put up better fantasy numbers as of late and should be able to throw multiple touchdowns for his third straight game.
Running Back
Ollie Gordon II: START, RB2
Ollie Gordon II is coming off his first single-digit fantasy performance since becoming the team’s starter and could struggle to surpass double digits against Detroit as well. Gordon went into Week 7 scoring in four straight games, but failed to do so against the Patriots. The Lions are a bottom-five matchup for running backs and have only allowed four rushing touchdowns to the position this season, none since Week 4. He’s still a volume-based RB2 in my book based on his secure role and massive share of backfield touches.
Wide Receiver
Caleb Douglas: START, WR3
Malik Washington: START, WR3
Chris Bell: START, WR3
It’s not just the top three matchup against Detroit that makes all three of Caleb Douglas, Malik Washington, and Chris Bell borderline WR3s. Detroit’s defense is targeted deep on 19.6% of pass attempts and has an average depth of target of 11.9 (both top 10) and allowed 16 completions of 20+ air yards, the most in the league. All three of Douglas, Washington, and Bell have nine targets in the two games since the bye and an aDOT over 10. One of them is catching at least one deep target, and it could wind up being all three.
Tight End
Greg Dulcich: STREAMER
He still doesn’t have a touchdown this year, but Greg Dulcich has been pushing or hitting double-digit points in almost every game since Week 3. Detroit gives up the most points and the most touchdowns to tight ends, making The Handsome Squidward of Tight Ends a solid streamer, with hopes he’s able to get into the end zone for the first time this season.
Defense/Special Teams
Miami Dolphins: SIT
