Houston Texans

Quarterback

C.J. Stroud: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)

C.J. Stroud was still in concussion protocol early in the week, but he is expected to clear and make his first start since Week 9. Davis Mills had filled in admirably, but the offense sputtered against the Bills, so the hope is that Stroud can continue to build on the improved play he was having pre-injury. Unfortunately for Stroud, up next is a divisional bout against the Indianapolis Colts, who have helped Patrick Mahomes without a touchdown and given up a total of three passing touchdowns in their last four. He’s a backend Superflex starter for this week, and likely the rest of the season. Stroud has a formidable schedule down the stretch, facing the Colts, Chiefs, Cardinals, Raiders, and Chargers.

Running Back

Woody Marks: START, RB2
Nick Chubb: SIT

At long last, the Woody Marks takeover has finally come to fruition. We were teased early in the season just to get more Nick Chubb, but this time seems legit. Over the past three games, Marks has handled 72% of snaps and 67.6% of carries, with Chubb sitting at exactly 19.7% for each. The Colts haven’t allowed many big performances from running backs this season, holding them to an average of 77.9 rushing yards per game, with Bijan Robinson’s being the first to top 80 against them this season. Lock Marks into your lineup as an RB2, and keep Chubb on the bench (if not the waiver wire).

Wide Receiver

Nico Collins: START, WR1
Jayden Higgins: FLEX, WR4
Christian Kirk: SIT
Jaylin Noel: SIT

It’ll be interesting to see the kind of impact the return of Stroud has on Nico Collins. The stud wideout had two of his best games with Mills starting, and it was a bit of a disappointment up to that point. As stout as the Colts defense has been this season, they’ve been pretty fantasy-friendly to receivers. Indy has allowed the 10th most points to the position this season, despite doing a decent job of keeping WRs out of the endzone. The Colts have given up the eighth most receiving yards (1,768) and third most receptions (149), yet rank in the bottom half of touchdowns allowed to receivers with 10. Jayden Higgins has seven or more targets in three straight games and could end up having one of those trademark rookie receiver late-season surges. The upside isn’t there for a league-winning type stretch, but he’s a serviceable FLEX with potential for more. Christian Kirk caught his first touchdown as a Texan last week, but his only fantasy impact at this point in his career is ruining the fun for Jaylin Noel. Neither is startable.

Tight End

Dalton Schultz: START, TE1

Dalton Schultz had under 10 points for just the second time in his last six games, but it’s not surprising the way the Bills have shut down opposing tight ends. The Colts have been much more fantasy-friendly of a matchup, giving up the fourth most points to the position, including the third most average yards (72.2) and sixth most receptions per game (6.4). Fire Schultz up as a solid back-end TE1.

Defense/Special Teams

Houston Texans: START

Houston is one of two teams holding opponents under 17 points per game, and is arguably the best defense in the NFL.

Indianapolis Colts

Quarterback

Daniel Jones: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)

Daniel Jones fell short of 200 passing yards for the first time this season, but was able to throw two touchdowns in the first half against the Chiefs to salvage a decent fantasy total. It was a really weird day for the Colts’ offense, scoring two touchdowns in the first half, then failing to get in the end zone the rest of the game. Indy didn’t muster a first down in the fourth quarter over Overtime. But there was a silver lining: Jones seemed to quell his pre-bye turnover issue, and I’d say over 20 fantasy points against a tough Chiefs defense is reassuring for his floor. Buuuuuttttt…….. He faces the Texans in Week 13. The very defense that held Josh Allen scoreless a week after he scored six total touchdowns. He’s startable in Superflex, but I would let him ride the pine in 1QB if you have even a decent alternative.

Running Back

Jonathan Taylor: START, RB1

Jonathan Taylor is obviously a lock in your lineup, but did you know that he partnered with Campbell’s Chunky Soup for a Giving Tuesday event in November 2021? He personally worked at Second Helpings food bank in Indianapolis to help prepare and deliver holiday-adjacent meals for local families in need.

Wide Receiver/Tight End

Michael Pittman Jr.: START, WR2
Alec Pierce: START, WR3
Josh Downs: FLEX, WR4
Tyler Warren: START, TE1

None of the Colts’ receivers did much of anything against the Chiefs. It was actually Ashton Dulin who led the way with 48 receiving yards, with none of Michael Pittman, Alec Pierce, or Josh Downs able to manage even 30. Tyler Warren caught five of seven targets for 46 yards, but it was Alec Ogeltree who caught one of Jones’s two touchdowns, the other going to Pittman. Not much changes value-wise for the Colts’ fantasy options, but it was slightly concerning for Pierce to have just two targets after averaging 7.8 over his last five games. If he has another game with under four to five targets, his perceived solid floor could vanish as quickly as it appeared.

Defense/Special Teams

Indianapolis Colts: START

The Colts are tied for the sixth most turnovers forced and face a Houston team averaging 19.6 points per game away from home.
