Indianapolis Colts

Quarterback

Daniel Jones: START, QB1

For those who gambled with Daniel Jones and his fractured fibula against the worst fantasy matchup for quarterbacks, Week 13 was one of those “ok cool, I’ll take that” kind of performances, especially after the Colts punted the first three drives. Jones had a season low 14 completions and barely snuck over 200 passing yards, but did throw two touchdowns. He completed just 52% of his passes and ran for a single rushing yard, but was turnover-free for a second straight game as well. Considering the fractured fibula likely limits his rushing upside the rest of the season, Jones is more of a floor play than upside, but a rock-solid QB1 for the final four weeks of the fantasy season. He had a sprinkle of upside against a Jaguars defense allowing the fourth most points to the position. It was a mere few weeks ago that this defense gave up seven touchdowns to Geno Smith and Davis Mills in a two-week span.

Running Back

Jonathan Taylor: START, RB1

Jonathan Taylor is a weekly must-start, but did you know that “Bud” Selig, famous for serving as the Commissioner of Major League Baseball from 1998 to 2015, is also an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison?

Wide Receiver

Michael Pittman Jr.: START, WR2
Alec Pierce: START, WR3
Josh Downs: SIT

Alec Pierce may have only caught four passes, but all four were at least 18-yard receptions. His post-bye 19.4% target share leads the Colts, as does his 17.7-yard average depth of target and 2.18 yards per route run. Michael Pittman WR1 SZN was fun while it lasted. Though he has two or fewer catches in two of his last three games, the emergence of Pierce as a reliable weapon is driving down what was once considered a safe floor. Josh Downs has twelve targets in two games since the bye, but just four catches, and remains a touchdown or bust FLEX. The Jaguars are a middle-of-the-road matchup that had given up six touchdowns to wide receivers heading into their Week 8 bye, but permitted just two since.

Tight End

Tyler Warren: START, TE1

Tyler Warren will have the occasional dud, but that has more to do with the plethora of pass catchers on the Colts than it does the rookie’s skillset. Warren has either five targets or a touchdown in every game this season and currently ranks as the TE4 overall. The Jags have given up seven touchdowns to the position and rank second in points per game allowed to tight ends. He’s a locked starter and dark horse to finish as the TE1 overall this week.

Defense/Special Teams

Indianapolis Colts: START

Indianapolis will be without Sauce Gardner after the newly acquired Colt suffered a calf strain in Week 13. But with the Colts ranking in the top five in sacks and interceptions, they’re a startable fantasy defense more often than not. Jacksonville’s 11 interceptions thrown are the fifth-most this season.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Quarterback

Trevor Lawrence: START (in Superflex), Borderline QB1

Trevor Lawrence has been a serviceable fantasy quarterback over the past two weeks, totaling five touchdowns and nearly 500 passing yards against the Cardinals and Titans. I don’t trust it, though. Since Week 10, Arizona and Tennessee have allowed high numbers in yards per attempt, passing touchdowns, and QBR, making them favorable draws regardless of who’s throwing the ball. The Colts have been a top 12 fantasy matchup for the season overall, but have given up a total of five passing touchdowns in their last five games. Even without Sauce Gardner, Lawrence is best left for Superflex. But if you’re in a pinch, he’s a passable start in 1QB leagues.

Running Back

Travis Etienne Jr.: START, RB2
Bhayshul Tuten: SIT

Travis Etienne‘s touchdown-inflated resurgence over the past few weeks came crashing down in what should have been a cake matchup against Tennessee. ETN went into the game with four straight games over 15 fantasy points, but much of that was aided by four touchdowns in three games. The Colts have allowed just one 100-yard rusher this season and all but two backs under 80 rushing yards. Bhayshul Tuten has shown flashes, but isn’t getting enough work to be considered anything more than a handcuff.

Wide Receiver

Brian Thomas Jr.: FLEX, WR4
Jakobi Meyers: START, WR3
Parker Washington: FLEX (If Active) | Not Practicing at time of writing

Brian Thomas Jr. is easily on the short list for the biggest bust this season, and he didn’t do anything to flip the script in Week 13. It was Jakobi Meyers who led the way for the Jaguars, catching all of his team-high six targets for 91 yards and a touchdown. BTJ saw just three targets, the lowest target total since Week 10 of last year, but through the thick fog of his unfortunate sophomore slump, there is a small glimmer of positivity to come out of this game. BTJ played 26% of his snaps from the slot in his first game, over 20% since Week 4, and over 25% since Week 2.  Last season, Thomas led the league with seven touchdowns scored from the slot and ranked #1 in fantasy points per route run from the slot per fantasy points data. We’re not going to see WR1 Brian Thomas Jr again this season, but if this uptick in slot usage holds through the rest of the year, hopefully his efficiency and fantasy points will uptick as well. For now, view Meyers as a high-end WR3 and BTJ as an upside flex play. Parker Washington left the game against Tennessee with a hip injury and had yet to practice at the time of writing. If he’s able to suit up, he’s a touchdown-dependent FLEX.

Tight End

Brenton Strange: START, TE1

Brenton Strange has 13 or more points in each of his games since returning from IR. Over that period, Strange ranks third on the team with a 15.8% target share and leads the team in deep targets with four. Indianapolis was getting shredded by tight ends before their bye, but it’s been a much different story since their acquisition of Sauce Gardner. Over the last four weeks, tight ends have averaged four catches and 34.8 yards per game. Gardner missing the game weakens the Colts’ pass defense and should open up things for Strange to easily finish as a TE1 in Week 14.

Defense/Special Teams

Jacksonville Jaguars: STREAMER (Two Week)

Jacksonville is holding its opponents to a league low 11 points per game over its past three games and gets to face a hobbled Daniel Jones at home. They’re a solid streaming option that you can hold and play next week against the Jets in the first week of the fantasy playoffs.
