Houston Texans
Quarterback
C.J. Stroud: SIT
C.J. Stroud failed to throw a touchdown pass in his return and faces a Chiefs defense tied for the third-fewest passing touchdowns allowed this season. Pass.
Running Back
Woody Marks: START, RB2
Nick Chubb: SIT
Woody Marks left Week 13’s game with a foot issue, but is expected to suit up against the Chiefs. Marks has taken over the Texans’ backfield, handling 63.8% of the team’s carries since Week 10, making Nick Chubb essentially unstartable. The Chiefs have been able to keep running backs in Check, allowing the seventh-fewest points to the position and only James Cook to run for 100 or more yards.
Wide Receiver
Nico Collins: START, WR1
Jayden Higgins: FLEX, WR4
Christian Kirk: SIT
Nico Collins is a weekly must-start, but did you know that the legendary actor James Earl Jones, famous for voicing Darth Vader and Mufasa, is also an alumnus of the University of Michigan? Jayden Higgins has taken his rightful place as the WR2 for the Texans over the past four weeks. Since Week 10, the rookie receiver has a 20.1% target share, second only to Collins’ ridiculous 38.3%. He’s a low upside flex against the Chiefs.
Tight End
Dalton Schultz: START, borderline TE1
Dalton Schultz has quietly been a stable TE1 nearly every week, but the Chiefs have completely shut down tight ends this season. Kansas City has given up just three touchdowns to the position and held every tight end not named Dalton Kincaid to 55 or fewer receiving yards. With so many viable fantasy tight ends on bye, he’s still startable. But Schultz could have a rough week.
Defense/Special Teams
Houston Texans: START
You start the Texans’ defense every week.
Kansas City Chiefs
Quarterback
Patrick Mahomes: START, QB1
Patrick Mahomes bounced back nicely from his recent struggles with four Thanksgiving Day touchdown passes against Dallas, but he could hop right back behind the wheel of the struggle bus in Week 14. The Texans are the toughest fantasy matchup for opposing quarterbacks, allowing just 12 passing touchdowns and an almost matching 11 interceptions. With the Chiefs’ playoff hopes in the balance, I’m still willing to start Mahomes in all formats. But his floor and ceiling are much lower than we’ve come to expect from the future Hall of Famer.
Running Back
Kareem Hunt: FLEX, RB3
Isiah Pacheco: SIT
Brashard Smith: SIT
None of the Kansas City running backs did much in Week 13, but Kareem Hunt had 11 more carries than Isiah Pacheco, handling the majority of early downs, third downs, all but one play in the 2-minute drill, and four of five plays on the goal line. Hunt rushed for 58 yards and caught one of two targets for 22 yards, with Pacheco garnering 16 yards on the ground and catching both of his targets for 17 yards. I expect Pacheco to be more involved in future weeks, but Hunt’s the only Chiefs back I’m willing to start in fantasy. Hunt’s a touchdown or bust flex against a Houston defense allowing the 11th-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season.
Wide Receiver
Rashee Rice: START, WR1
Xavier Worthy: SIT
Hollywood Brown: SIT
Rashee Rice is a weekly must-start, but did you know that the billionaire Tom Dundon, famous for his ownership of the Carolina Hurricanes and his role as the biggest investor behind Topgolf, is also an alumnus of Southern Methodist University?
Tight End
Travis Kelce: START, TE1
If this truly is the final season for Travis Kelce, he’s proven that old habits die screaming. He’s on pace for his best season since 2023, and a week-in, week-out must start.
BUT …
The Texans are an awful matchup, allowing just four touchdowns to tight ends and only two over 50 receiving yards. He’s still a TE1 against Houston, but he’s just as likely to have a miserable game as he is a magical one.
Defense/Special Teams
Kansas City Chiefs: STREAMER
Anybody facing the Texans is in streamer consideration.
