New Orleans Saints
Quarterback
Tyler Shough: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)
Rookie quarterback Tyler Shough had the second two-touchdown game of his career against the Dolphins and is positioned as a better-than-you-may-think QB2 option in Superflex. By no means am I trying to start him, but if you’re in desperation mode with byes and injuries, he has a good matchup. Tampa gives up the third most points to the position and 13 total touchdowns to quarterbacks since their Week 9 bye (obviously a tad skewed by Josh Allen‘s six touchdown performance, but they are still #notgood).
Running Back
Alvin Kamara
Devin Neal: SIT
Audric Estimé: SIT
Alvin Kamara still isn’t practicing and is expected to miss Week 14, setting up rookie Devin Neal to start for a second straight game. Neal was incredibly ineffective with the 17 opportunities he saw in Week 13, scoring just 9.9 fantasy points. He’s full fade for me, regardless of the volume he sees.
Wide Receiver
Chris Olave: START, WR2
Devaughn Vele: FLEX, WR4
Chris Olave missed practice on Wednesday, but was reportedly due to soreness from the same injury he was dealing with last week. He’s expected to play and checks in as a high-end WR2 against a Bucs defense that’s allowing over 12 catches and 160 receiving yards per game to the position. Devaughn Vele had a career day against the Dolphins, catching all of his team-high eight targets for 93 yards and a touchdown. He could be a desperation flex if you’re feeling frisky.
Tight End
Juwan Johnson: START, TE1
Juwan Johnson has seven or more targets in four of his last six games and scored over 10 fantasy points in five of them. In addition to the barren tight end landscape, multiple startable options are on bye this week. Those factors combine to make Johnson an easy start in Week 14.
Defense/Special Teams
New Orleans Saints: SIT
The Saints’ defense isn’t on the fantasy radar.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Quarterback
Baker Mayfield: START (in Superflex), Borderline QB1
Baker Mayfield hasn’t thrown multiple touchdowns since Week 10 and tossed a total of 408 yards over that span. The Saints’ defense has been relatively stout against the pass, holding five of the last six quarterbacks faced under 200 passing yards and four of them without a passing touchdown. I’m avoiding him in 1QB, but Mayfield’s still starting for you in Superflex.
Running Back
Bucky Irving: START, RB1
Rachaad White: SIT
Sean Tucker: SIT
He’s BACK, BABY. Bucky Irving handled 16 of 20 rush attempts for 56 yards and a rushing touchdown. Don’t let the modest numbers fool you, Irving looked every bit his explosive self with over 40 yards after contact and forcing six missed tackles. The best part may have been that Bucky handled 100% of the goal-line carries and probably should have had at least one more touchdown. He had a rushing TD called back in the first half on a hold that didn’t help him get in the end zone, but was a hold nonetheless. Rachaad White came back in for the 2nd and long and got down to the one. Irving came back in, and the formation looked identical to the play a few snaps prior. But the Bucs used the element of surprise, and we got a big man tuddy, with Mayfield hitting Tristan Wirfs for his first career touchdown reception. If you had any hesitation before, take it and toss it out the window. Irving is locked in as an every-week RB1 rest of the season, relegating both White and Sean Tucker to handcuff status.
Wide Receiver
Emeka Egbuka: START, WR2
Tez Johnson: SIT
Chris Godwin Jr.: SIT
The recent poor passing performance from Mayfield has trickled down to stud rookie Emeka Egbuka, who’s failed to surpass 10 fantasy points in three straight and six of his last seven games. Egbuka has an elite skillset and continues to get fed, but the Bucs’ pass game is stymied at the moment. Chris Godwin dropped a sure touchdown in Week 13, but looked as healthy as he has all year. He’s still off the fantasy radar, but someone to keep an eye on. Tez Johnson had one catch for the second time in three games, and his Travis Fulgham-like run is over.
Tight End
Cade Otton: tHe gLoB
Do you like tight ends who score around seven fantasy points unless they catch a touchdown? Do I have a guy for you! The Saints haven’t allowed a touchdown to a tight end since Week 9, so don’t expect much from Cade Otton.
Defense/Special Teams
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: START
The Buccaneers are tied for sixth with 18 takeaways on the year and are also averaging about 2.5 sacks per game. They’re a great starting option against a poor offense this week.
